Aarhus University Hospital
Aarhus University Hospital (AUH) is located in Skejby and is the result of a merger between Aarhus Municipal Hospital, Aarhus County Hospital, Skejby Hospital, Marselisborg Hospital, and Samsø Hospital.
These hospitals have been merged in several stages and today form a large, modern, and highly specialized hospital that is internationally recognized. AUH also serves as the emergency hospital for 378,000 residents in the municipalities of Aarhus and Samsø.
AUH consists of 50 departments, including clinical and diagnostic departments as well as operational units. The hospital employs approximately 10,000 staff members who collaborate daily in strong professional communities across departments in treatment, research, education, and innovation.
AUH conducts research in close collaboration with Aarhus University and with regional, national, and international partners.
It is the only Danish hospital that is a member of the European University Hospital Alliance (EUHA), and it is also a member of 19 European Reference Networks (ERNs) for rare diseases.
Role within GreenNanoBone
The research group from AUH, in collaboration with AU, will provide samples of human bone and soft tissue from patients treated surgically for MRONJ. The aim is to establish a single-cell atlas of human MRONJ, highlighting the cells involved in the disease and their transcriptomic profiles. This will be achieved via:
Inclusion of patients treated with high dose antiresorptive medication planned for surgical resection
The patients will follow the routine procedures of the department with CBCT scan before and after surgery, and clinical follow-up
Handling of the resected bone and soft tissue according to the protocol in order to prepare for the analyses performed at AU.
The analyses will aim to:
Characterise cellular landscape and transcriptional states in MRONJ human samples
Validate transcriptional results at the protein level aiming to identify potential therapeutic targets
Characterise microbial profile of MRONJ patients
